Local elections: Moedas says the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition in Lisbon “goes far beyond the parties”

The head of the list for the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition for the Lisbon City Council in the upcoming local elections, Social Democrat Carlos Moedas, stated today that his candidacy “goes far beyond the parties” and is “a safe haven” for moderates.
"Lisbon residents will have to choose what they want for the future: whether they want our coalition of moderates, which works, which achieves, which is concrete, or whether they want a radical opposition candidacy, now incorporated into this new left-wing bloc," said Carlos Moedas, alluding to the PS/Livre/BE/PAN coalition, led by socialist Alexandra Leitão.
The social democrat and current mayor of Lisbon was speaking as part of the formalization of the PSD/CDS-PP/IL coalition agreement – “Por ti, Lisboa” for the local elections on October 12, which took place at the Fábrica de Unicórnios, a place he highlighted as “special” for having helped the Portuguese capital “to be at the top of Europe and create thousands of jobs”, as well as “turn the impossible into possible”.
Before Carlos Moedas, Mário Amorim Lopes spoke for the IL, Telmo Correia for the CDS-PP and Hugo Soares for the PSD.
Speaking to dozens of people holding blue and yellow signs of the "Por ti, Lisboa" coalition, the Social Democrat once again thanked the three parties – PSD, CDS-PP and IL – and considered that this joining of forces on the right demonstrates that the work of four years in office deserves this recognition.
In the current term (2021-2025), the Lisbon executive includes seven elected members from the “Novos Tempos” coalition – PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança, seven elected members from the “Mais Lisboa” coalition – PS/Livre, two from the CDU and one from the BE.
Running for mayor of Lisbon in the local elections on October 12 are Alexandra Leitão (PS/Livre/BE/PAN), Carlos Moedas (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), João Ferreira (CDU – PCP/PEV coalition), Ossanda Líber (New Right), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega) and José Almeida (Volt).
